Product Specific Information
This antibody is specific for the MDR1 isoform of P-Glycoprotein and does not cross-react with MDR3.
It has been shown to cross-react with Pyruvate Carboxylase (130 kDa), an abundant mitochondrial enzyme, in both immunoblots and immunohistochemical tissue sections.
Weak homogeneous, cytoplasmic, or granular staining patterns may indicate reactivity with the Pyruvate Carboxylase cross-reactive epitope rather than true P-Glycoprotein staining.
For optimal Western blot staining, incubate the primary antibody for 20–60 minutes at room temperature.
Sections should be pretreated with an antigen unmasking solution.
Target Information
The membrane-associated protein encoded by this gene belongs to the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily.
ABC proteins transport various molecules across extra- and intra-cellular membranes and are divided into seven subfamilies (ABC1, MDR/TAP, MRP, ALD, OABP, GCN20, White).
This protein is a member of the MDR/TAP subfamily, which is involved in multidrug resistance.
It functions as an ATP-dependent drug efflux pump for xenobiotic compounds with broad substrate specificity, contributing to decreased drug accumulation in multidrug-resistant cells and mediating resistance to anticancer drugs.
Additionally, it acts as a transporter in the blood-brain barrier.
