- Recommended positive controls:

Target Information
COX2 catalyzes the conversion of arachidonate to prostaglandin H2 (PGH2), a key step in prostanoid synthesis including inflammatory prostaglandins. This two-step reaction involves:
- Cyclooxygenase (COX) converting arachidonate to prostaglandin G2 (PGG2)
- Peroxidase reducing PGG2 to PGH2
COX2 is constitutively expressed in certain tissues (endothelium, kidney, brain) under physiological conditions and upregulated under pathological conditions such as cancer and inflammation. It is associated with increased cell adhesion, resistance to apoptosis, and tumor angiogenesis.
In cancer cells, COX2 promotes prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) production, influencing motility and proliferation. COX2 activity is naturally inhibited by calcitriol (active Vitamin D) and suppressed by glucocorticoids. It is also targeted by NSAIDs such as aspirin to reduce inflammation.
