Peroxiredoxin (Prx)는 세포 증식, 분화, 세포사와 관련된 퍼옥시다제 계열 단백질로, 활성 부위의 시스테인 잔기를 포함하며 티올 특이 항산화 활성을 보입니다. 포유류 Prx는 6가지 주요 멤버로 구성되어 있으며, 2-Cys, atypical 2-Cys, 1-Cys Prx로 분류됩니다. 대부분의 2-Cys Prx는 thioredoxin 의존성 퍼옥시다제(TPx) 활성을 가지며, Prx VI는 1-Cys Prx 그룹에 속합니다. 포유류 Prx는 분자량 20–30 kDa이며, 세포질(Prx I, II, VI), 미토콘드리아(Prx III), ER 및 분비(Prx IV), 그리고 다양한 세포 소기관(Prx V)에 존재합니다.
