Target Information
BAMBI (BMP and activin membrane-bound inhibitor homolog, NMA) is a membrane-spanning glycoprotein that functions as a negative regulator of TGF-beta signaling during development. Its transcription is influenced by beta-catenin, BMP, Smad3, and Smad4.
BAMBI expression is elevated in colorectal and hepatocellular carcinomas compared to non-cancerous tissues and is highly expressed during odontogenesis. It is coexpressed with Bmp-4 during early Xenopus embryogenesis and detected in poorly metastatic human melanoma cell lines.
