Description:
The HIT8a monoclonal antibody reacts with the human CD8a molecule, a 32–34 kDa cell surface receptor expressed as a heterodimer (CD8α/β) or homodimer (CD8α/α). It is found on most thymocytes, a subset of mature T cells, and NK cells. CD8 interacts with MHC class I and, through association with tyrosine kinase p56lck, contributes to T cell development and activation.

Applications Tested:
Pre-titrated and tested by flow cytometric analysis of normal human peripheral blood cells. Use at 5 µL (0.06 µg) per test in a final volume of 100 µL. Suitable for 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test.

Target Information

Cluster of differentiation 8 (CD8) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin receptor family. It plays a key role in signal transduction and T cell activation. CD8 is primarily expressed on T cells as a disulfide-linked heterodimer (CD8α/β), serving as a co-receptor for MHC class I molecules.
A subset of T cells, NK cells, monocytes, and dendritic cells also express CD8α homodimers. Interaction with MHC-I/peptide complexes on antigen-presenting cells recruits Lck kinase, leading to lymphokine production and cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) activation. Activated CTLs are essential for pathogen and tumor cell clearance. Differentiation of naive CD8⁺ T cells into CTLs is enhanced by IL-2, IL-12, and TGF-β1.
