Target Information
STING (TMEM173) is a 379 amino acid signaling protein that plays a key role in innate immune signaling. It activates NF-kappa-B and IRF3 transcription pathways, inducing type I interferon (IFN-α, IFN-β) expression and establishing an antiviral state. STING may function as a translocon influencing interferon induction and is involved in apoptotic signal transduction via MHC-II association. It facilitates detection of intracellular viral RNA and B-form DNA, mediating death signaling through ERK pathway activation. STING is localized in the endoplasmic reticulum membrane, cell membrane, and mitochondrial outer membrane, and is ubiquitously expressed in most tissues.
