Product Specific Information
Store vial at -20°C prior to opening. Aliquot contents and freeze at -20°C or below for extended storage. Avoid cycles of freezing and thawing. Centrifuge product if not completely clear after standing at room temperature. This product is stable for several weeks at 4°C as an undiluted liquid. Dilute only prior to immediate use.
This affinity purified antibody is directed against mouse p35/Cdk5. A BLAST analysis indicates cross-reactivity with rat, human, bovine, and Spermophilus citellus based on 100% sequence homology with the immunizing peptide.
Target Information
The p35 protein is a neuron-specific activator of cyclin-dependent kinase 5 (CDK5). Activation of CDK5 is required for proper central nervous system development. p35 is proteolytically cleaved by calpain to generate p25, which relocates from the cell periphery to nuclear and perinuclear regions. The p25 form deregulates CDK5 activity by prolonging activation and altering localization. In Alzheimer’s disease, p25 accumulates in neurons, correlating with increased CDK5 activity and aberrant phosphorylation of tau protein.
