Target Information
ZFPM1 is a transcription regulator essential for erythroid and megakaryocytic cell differentiation. It acts as a cofactor forming heterodimers with GATA family transcription factors (GATA1, GATA2, GATA3), which can either activate or repress gene expression depending on the context.
The ZFPM1–GATA complex activates genes such as NFE2, ITGA2B, and alpha-/beta-globin, while repressing KLF1.
ZFPM1 may also play roles in gonadal gene regulation and cardiac development (in cooperation with ZFPM2/FOG2).
