Target Information

Defects in COX10 are a cause of mitochondrial complex IV deficiency (MT-C4D), also known as cytochrome c oxidase deficiency. This disorder affects the mitochondrial respiratory chain and can manifest as isolated myopathy or severe multisystem disease involving multiple tissues and organs. Clinical features may include hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, hepatomegaly, liver dysfunction, hypotonia, muscle weakness, exercise intolerance, developmental delay, and mental retardation. Some patients may present with Leigh syndrome.
