Target Information
This gene encodes the receptor for type 1 gonadotropin-releasing hormone. The receptor is a member of the seven-transmembrane, G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR) family and is expressed on pituitary gonadotrope cells, lymphocytes, breast, ovary, and prostate. Upon binding gonadotropin-releasing hormone, the receptor activates a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system, leading to release of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). Mutations can cause hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (HH). Multiple transcript variants exist due to alternative splicing.
