Target Information
LIPG (Lipase G, Endothelial type) is an endothelial lipase and a member of the lipoprotein lipase gene family. It is synthesized by endothelial cells and functions locally at the site of synthesis.
LIPG plays a physiological role in modulating lipoprotein metabolism. Overexpression of LIPG reduces HDL cholesterol levels, while LIPG deficiency elevates HDL cholesterol in animal models.
It exhibits substantial phospholipase activity and contributes to lipoprotein metabolism and vascular biology.
LIPG is part of the TG lipase family, characterized by a lid region that provides substrate specificity. It acts as a carboxyl esterase that hydrolyzes HDL, emulsifies triglycerides, and assists in dietary fat digestion, with heparin-binding capability.
