Target Information
Neurogenin 1 (NEUROG1) is a basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factor involved in determining cell type during development. NeuroG1 has dual roles in cell-fate specification: it promotes neurogenesis as a transcriptional activator while inhibiting astrocyte differentiation. It achieves this by compartmentalizing the CREB-binding protein transcription complex away from astrocyte differentiation genes and inhibiting STAT transcription factors essential for gliogenesis.
