Target Information
Carbonic anhydrases (CAs) are zinc metalloenzymes catalyzing the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide. They are involved in diverse biological processes such as calcification, bone resorption, respiration, acid-base balance, and the formation of aqueous humor, saliva, gastric juice, and cerebrospinal fluid.
CA VB, also known as carbonate dehydratase VB, is a mitochondrial enzyme involved in metabolic processes. It is predominantly expressed in heart, pancreas, lung, placenta, kidney, and skeletal muscle.
Unlike CA VA, CA VB is not expressed in the liver, indicating a distinct physiological role.
