Target Information

AGP (α1-acid Glycoprotein) is an acute-phase plasma protein synthesized by the liver. It regulates interactions between blood and endothelial cells and mediates cell extravasation during infection and inflammation. Expression is induced by bacterial lipopolysaccharides.
AGP binds basic drugs with high affinity and low capacity at physiological pH. Human plasma levels range from 0.5–1.4 mg/mL and increase during acute inflammation, making it useful for diagnosing inflammatory conditions.
Multiple AGP genes exist (AGP-1, AGP-2, AGP-3, AGP-8). AGP-1 and AGP-2 contain five and six N-glycosylation sites, respectively. Abnormal AGP-1 expression is linked to sarcoidosis and immunogenetic diseases, while AGP-2 mutations are associated with carcinomas.
