Product Specific Information
- Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
- Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 minutes at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.
Target Information
IFN gamma (Interferon gamma, Type II interferon) is a macrophage activation factor and immune interferon produced primarily by T-lymphocytes and natural killer cells in response to antigens, mitogens, and cytokines. It is a dimeric glycoprotein (~45 kDa) composed of two 146 amino acid subunits.
Human IFN gamma does not cross-react with mouse IFN gamma and exhibits species-specific biological activity.
Functions include:
- Antiviral and antitumor activity
- Induction of MHC class I and II expression
- Macrophage activation
- Enhanced immunoglobulin secretion by B lymphocytes
IFN gamma acts through IFN gamma receptor I/II and the JAK-STAT pathway. It shares ~40% sequence homology with mouse IFN gamma and is regulated by IL2, FGF basic, EGF (upregulation) and vitamin D3 or DMN (downregulation). Mutations in the IFN gamma gene are associated with aplastic anemia.
