This antibody detects endogenous levels of total EPPIN protein.
Target Information
Eppin (epididymal protease inhibitor) belongs to the WFDC family and the telomeric cluster. The gene encoding Eppin is localized to chromosome 20q12–q13 and expresses three mRNAs encoding two isoforms of a cystine-rich protein containing Kunitz-type and WAP-type protease inhibitor consensus sequences.
In mice, the gene lies in a cluster of Eppin-like genes on chromosome 2. After ejaculation, Eppin binds to semenogelin in seminal plasma and on human spermatozoa. The Eppin–Semenogelin complex provides antimicrobial activity and supports sperm preparation and survival in the female reproductive tract.
Eppin is a secreted protein expressed in the epididymis and testis.
