Zyxin is a zinc-binding phosphoprotein involved in focal adhesions—actin-rich structures that mediate cell adhesion and signal transduction. It localizes at focal adhesions and along the actin cytoskeleton.

- N-terminal proline-rich domain (interacts with SH3 domains)
- Three LIM domains in the C-terminal half (involved in protein-protein binding)
Zyxin may act as a messenger in adhesion-stimulated signal transduction, influencing gene expression and actin bundle organization.
Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding the same isoform.
