Target Information

The type II cAMP-dependent protein kinase (PKA) is a multifunctional kinase with a broad range of substrates. Specificity of PKA signaling is mediated by compartmentalization of the kinase to specific cellular sites. The R subunit (RII) of PKA interacts with A-kinase anchoring proteins (AKAPs) to maintain localization.
AKAP3 (also known as AKAP110, FSP95, PRKA3, SOB1) binds both PKA and PDE4A, functioning as a scaffolding protein in spermatozoa to regulate local cAMP concentrations and modulate sperm functions.
Expression of AKAP3 is restricted to testis under normal conditions, where bicarbonate stimulates its tyrosine phosphorylation, enhancing PKA recruitment.
AKAP3 shows high expression in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC), demonstrating tumor-restricted expression and association with poorer survival, suggesting its potential as a target for antigen-specific immunotherapy in EOC.
