Target Information
Bone Morphogenic Proteins (BMPs) are members of the TGF-beta superfamily that regulate bone and cartilage formation. Mature BMPs (30–38 kDa) possess a TGF-beta-like cysteine knot structure. BMP2 expression can be stimulated by lovostatin, enhancing bone formation. BMPs modulate bone matrix protein production, stromal cell proliferation, and osteoclast activity. They also play roles in organogenesis, affecting cell proliferation, differentiation, and morphogenesis. BMPs bind to type II receptors, recruiting type I receptors to activate the Smad signaling pathway.
