Target Information
Serum albumin is a globular, unglycosylated protein of approximately 65 kDa and is the main protein component of plasma. It exhibits strong binding capacity for water, fatty acids, hormones, bilirubin, and drugs. The primary physiological role of albumin is to regulate the colloidal osmotic pressure of blood. Albumin is synthesized in the liver as preproalbumin, which undergoes sequential cleavage to yield the mature, secreted form.
