Target Information
AMPK Beta 2 is a regulatory subunit of the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), a heterotrimer composed of alpha (catalytic), beta, and gamma (regulatory) subunits.
AMPK acts as an energy sensor, activated during metabolic stress, and phosphorylates key enzymes such as acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC) and HMG-CoA reductase (HMGCR), which regulate fatty acid and cholesterol biosynthesis.
The Beta 2 subunit may positively regulate AMPK activity and influence enzyme function and localization through myristoylation and phosphorylation.
It may also serve as an adaptor molecule facilitating AMPK complex assembly.
