Target Information
SMAD3 belongs to the SMAD family of proteins, homologous to the Drosophila gene mothers against decapentaplegic (Mad) and the C. elegans gene Sma. SMAD proteins act as signal transducers and transcriptional modulators mediating multiple signaling pathways. SMAD3 is activated by transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) and plays a key role in transcriptional regulation and carcinogenesis.
