Target Information
SMURF2 is an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase that transfers ubiquitin from an E2 enzyme to target substrates. It interacts with SMAD1, SMAD2, and SMAD7 to promote their ubiquitination and degradation.
SMURF2 enhances SMAD7 inhibitory activity and reduces SMAD2 transcriptional activity. Coexpression with SMAD1 decreases SMAD1 protein levels and slightly reduces SMAD2 levels.
