Target Information
USP7 (also known as HAUSP) is a ubiquitin-specific protease that removes ubiquitin from substrate proteins. This activity stabilizes proteins by preventing their degradation. USP7 is a known antagonist of Mdm2, the E3 ubiquitin ligase that targets p53 for degradation. By deubiquitinating p53, USP7 can stabilize p53 and contribute to tumor suppression in response to cellular stress. Additionally, USP7 may play a role in oncogenic signaling pathways involving Myc and E1A, potentially offering an alternative mechanism for p53 stabilization independent of ARF.
