Target Information
USP7 (also known as HAUSP) is a ubiquitin-specific protease that removes ubiquitin from substrates. It stabilizes proteins by preventing their degradation via the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway. USP7 antagonizes Mdm2, thereby stabilizing the tumor suppressor p53. Under oncogenic stress, USP7 can deubiquitinate and protect p53 from Mdm2-mediated degradation, suggesting a tumor-suppressive role. Additionally, USP7 may provide an alternative mechanism for p53 activation independent of ARF, helping cells respond to oncogenic signals.
