Product Specific Information

F12 recognizes an unknown polypeptide of desmosomal and hemidesmosomal plaques with a molecular weight of 185 kDa, determined by immunoblotting using bovine tongue epithelium extract. Immunoelectron microscopy (IEM) revealed that the antibody binds to the intracellular part of the desmosome.
F12 shares immunochemical properties with autoantibodies found in paraneoplastic pemphigus sera. Pemphigus diseases cause blistering of the skin due to autoantibodies against keratinocyte surface proteins. Autoantibodies in pemphigus vulgaris patients recognize desmoglein 1 (Dsg1), a major glycoprotein of the desmosome complex.

Target Information

Desmosomes and Hemidesmosomes are intercellular junctions that maintain tissue structural integrity under mechanical stress.

  • Desmosomes connect neighboring cells via cadherins and intermediate filaments.
  • Hemidesmosomes anchor epithelial cells to the extracellular matrix through integrins.
Both are found in tissues such as skin, heart, and muscle.
