The MA5-15921 immunogen is a purified recombinant fragment of human G6PD expressed in E. coli.
MA5-15921 detects G6PD, which has a predicted molecular weight of approximately 59 kDa.

Target Information

This gene encodes glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD), a cytosolic enzyme encoded by a housekeeping X-linked gene.
Its main function is to produce NADPH, a key electron donor in defense against oxidative stress and in reductive biosynthetic reactions.
G6PD is notable for its genetic diversity, with many variants resulting from missense mutations that lead to differing enzyme activity and clinical symptoms.
G6PD deficiency may cause neonatal jaundice, acute hemolysis, or severe chronic non-spherocytic hemolytic anemia.
Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
