Product Specific Information

The HIT2 monoclonal antibody reacts with the human CD38 molecule, an approximately 45 kDa type II transmembrane protein. CD38 is expressed by thymocytes, peripheral B cells including plasma cells, activated T cells, and monocytes. CD38 acts as a counter-receptor for CD31 and possesses cyclase and hydrolase enzymatic activity.

• Applications Tested: Pre-titrated and tested by flow cytometry using normal human peripheral blood cells
• Recommended Usage: 5 µL (0.25 µg) per test (defined as staining 100 µL cell sample; 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test)

Target Information

CD38 (NAD⁺ glycohydrolase) is a type II transmembrane glycoprotein that induces activation, proliferation, and differentiation of mature lymphocytes and mediates apoptosis of progenitor cells. It functions as a multi-catalytic ectoenzyme (ADP-ribosyl cyclase, cyclic ADP-ribose hydrolase, NAD⁺ glycohydrolase) and as a cell surface receptor.

Antibodies to CD38 are useful for:

• Subtyping lymphomas and leukemias
• Detection of plasma cells (e.g., myeloma identification)
• Marker for activated B and T cells

CD38 participates in cell adhesion, signal transduction, and calcium signaling. Highly expressed in pancreas, liver, kidney, malignant lymphoma, and neuroblastoma. Associated diseases include chronic lymphocytic leukemia and Richter’s Syndrome.
