YPEL5 (Yippee-like 5)은 5개의 Yippee-like 단백질 패밀리에 속하며, 이들은 모두 중심체(centrosome) 또는 유사분열 방추체(mitotic spindle)에 위치합니다. 성체 및 태아 조직에서 광범위하게 발현되며, 높은 종간 서열 상동성을 보입니다.
YPEL5는 세포주기 동안 다양한 위치에 존재합니다. 간기(interphase)에는 핵과 중심체에, 유사분열(mitosis) 동안에는 방추극(spindle poles), 방추체(mitotic spindle), 방추 중간대(spindle midzone)에 위치합니다. 세포질분열(cytokinesis) 시에는 midbody에 존재합니다.
