This antibody reacts with an extracellular epitope of CD18 antigen (bovine), a 90–95 kDa type I transmembrane protein (integrin) expressed on all leukocytes.
Target Information
CD18 integrin beta 2 subunit is a 90 kDa type I transmembrane protein expressed on all leukocytes.
CD18 forms heterodimers with CD11 molecules to constitute leukocyte (β2) integrins:
- αLβ2 (CD11a/CD18, LFA-1)
- αMβ2 (CD11b/CD18, Mac-1, CR3)
- αXβ2 (CD11c/CD18)
- αDβ2 (CD11d/CD18)
These integrins are essential for proper leukocyte migration and intercellular adhesion.
Defects in the CD18 gene cause leukocyte adhesion deficiency type I (LAD1).
CD18 is also targeted by Mannheimia haemolytica leukotoxin, mediating leukotoxin-induced cytolysis.
