Target Information
The membrane-associated protein encoded by this gene belongs to the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily. These proteins transport various molecules across cellular membranes and are divided into seven subfamilies (ABC1, MDR/TAP, MRP, ALD, OABP, GCN20, White).
This protein is part of the MDR/TAP subfamily and functions as an ATP-dependent drug efflux pump with broad substrate specificity. It plays a key role in multidrug resistance by reducing intracellular drug accumulation and mediating resistance to anticancer agents. Additionally, it acts as a transporter in the blood-brain barrier.
