Target Information
The WNT gene family consists of structurally related genes encoding secreted signaling proteins. These proteins are implicated in oncogenesis and developmental processes, including regulation of cell fate and patterning during embryogenesis.
This gene encodes a protein showing 95%, 86%, and 71% amino acid identity to mouse, zebrafish, and Xenopus Wnt8B proteins, respectively. Expression patterns of human and mouse genes are identical and restricted to the developing brain.
Chromosomal location 10q24 suggests it may be a candidate gene for partial epilepsy.
