Target Information
Glutathione is crucial for protecting cells from oxidative damage, detoxifying xenobiotics, and supporting membrane transport. Glutathione synthetase catalyzes the ATP-dependent conversion of gamma-L-glutamyl-L-cysteine to glutathione, the second step in glutathione biosynthesis. Defects in this gene can lead to glutathione synthetase deficiency.
