GAD-65와 GAD-67은 글루탐산 탈카르복실화 효소로, GABA(감마-아미노부티르산) 생성을 촉매합니다. GABA는 중추신경계의 주요 억제성 신경전달물질로, Cl⁻ 전도성을 증가시켜 신경 발화를 억제합니다.
GABA는 이온성 수용체(GABAA, GABAC)와 대사성 수용체(GABAB)에 작용합니다. GABAA 및 GABAC 수용체는 리간드 개폐 이온 채널로 구조적, 기능적으로 구별됩니다.
GABAA 수용체 패밀리는 α1–6, β1–3, γ1–3, δ, ε, ρ1, ρ2 서브유닛을 포함하며, GABAB 수용체는 R1α 및 R1β로 구성됩니다.
