Target Information
Alpha Tubulin is part of a heterodimer consisting of alpha and beta tubulin subunits. Each subunit (~55 kDa) forms the basic building block of microtubules, present in nearly all eukaryotic cells. Microtubules provide structural support, enable intracellular transport, and play key roles in mitosis.
Multiple alpha and beta tubulin genes are highly conserved among species. The alpha tubulin gene is highly similar to the mouse and rat Tuba1 gene. Expression is predominantly found in morphologically differentiated neurologic cells.
