Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the SWI/SNF family, which includes proteins with helicase and ATPase activities involved in transcriptional regulation via chromatin remodeling.
The encoded ARID1A protein is part of the SNF/SWI complex, required for transcriptional activation of genes typically repressed by chromatin.
It contains a DNA-binding domain recognizing AT-rich sequences and a C-terminal domain that enhances glucocorticoid receptor-dependent transcription.
ARID1A confers specificity to the SNF/SWI complex and may recruit it to target genes through protein-DNA or protein-protein interactions.
Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
