Target Information
Zyxin is involved in focal adhesions, which are actin-rich structures that enable cells to adhere to the extracellular matrix and serve as sites for signal transduction complex assembly. Zyxin is a zinc-binding phosphoprotein concentrated at focal adhesions and along the actin cytoskeleton.
It contains an N-terminal proline-rich domain and three LIM domains in the C-terminal half. The proline-rich domain may interact with SH3 domains of signaling proteins, while the LIM domains mediate protein-protein interactions. Zyxin may act as a messenger in adhesion-stimulated signal transduction, influencing gene expression and actin bundle organization.
Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding the same isoform.
