Target Information
Cell-mediated immune responses are initiated by T lymphocytes that are stimulated by peptides bound to MHC molecules on antigen-presenting cells (APC). T-cell activation is self-limited as activated T cells express inhibitory receptors such as PD-1 (PDCD-1). PD-1 interacts with ligands PDL-1 and PDL-2, transmitting inhibitory signals that suppress immune activation in the absence of danger signals (e.g., LPS). PD1-deficient mice exhibit hyperactivated immune systems and autoimmune phenotypes. PD-1 often migrates at higher molecular weight in SDS-PAGE than predicted.
