분자량은 약 27 kDa이며, ubiquitin carboxyl-terminal hydrolase family 1(peptidase family C12)에 속합니다.
이 단백질은 ubiquitin hydrolase 및 ligase 활성을 가지며, ubiquitin 단량체를 생성하는 역할을 합니다.
PGP9.5는 중추 및 말초 신경계의 뉴런과 신경섬유, 신경내분비세포, 신장 세뇨관 일부, 고환의 정세포 및 Leydig 세포, 난자, 황체 세포 등에서 발현됩니다.
과발현 시 비소세포 폐암과 연관되며, 발현 감소는 헌팅턴병 및 알츠하이머병과 관련이 있습니다.
따라서 PGP9.5는 신경세포 마커로서, 파킨슨병 등 신경퇴행성 질환 연구에 유용합니다.
