Product Specific Information

In Western blot, a band at approximately 66 kDa is detected. Minor bands of around 50 kDa and 150 kDa are also observed, which likely correspond to alpha-internexin breakdown products and covalent dimers, respectively.

Target Information

Alpha-internexin is a Class IV intermediate filament subunit expressed early in neuronal development. It is related to, but distinct from, the neurofilament triplet proteins (NF-L, NF-M, NF-H), sharing similar sequence motifs and intron organization. Many mature neurons contain alpha-internexin along with NF-L, NF-M, and NF-H, while some express only alpha-internexin.
Antibodies against alpha-internexin serve as valuable tools for studying and classifying neuronal types and tracing neuronal processes in tissue sections or cultures. Its early developmental expression makes it a useful marker for neuronal progenitor cells and cells committed to the neuronal lineage.
Although its use in brain tumor studies has not yet been explored, it may hold potential interest.
