Target Information
FABP7 was initially isolated from a human fetal brain cDNA library and is expressed at low levels in adult brain and muscle tissues. It belongs to the fatty acid binding protein (FABP) family, which binds long-chain fatty acids and other hydrophobic ligands. FABPs are involved in fatty acid uptake, transport, and metabolism.
FABP7 is a downstream gene of the Pax6 transcription factor and is essential for maintaining neuroepithelial cells during early cortical development. It is frequently expressed in melanomas, and its down-regulation via RNAi reduces cell proliferation and invasion, suggesting potential diagnostic and therapeutic applications.
