This antibody detects endogenous levels of total alpha Tubulin 4A.
Target Information
Alpha Tubulin is part of a heterodimer consisting of alpha and beta tubulin subunits. Both subunits (~55 kDa each) are homologous but not identical. The alpha-beta tubulin heterodimer forms the basic building block of microtubules, which are cylindrical filamentous structures present in nearly all eukaryotic cells.
Microtubules serve as structural supports and intracellular transport lines, and play a key role in mitosis. They are composed mainly of alpha and beta tubulins, while gamma tubulin is critical for microtubule nucleation. Multiple alpha and beta tubulin genes exist and are highly conserved among species. The alpha tubulin gene shows high similarity to the mouse and rat Tuba1 genes, with expression predominantly in morphologically differentiated neurological cells.
