Target Information
Transthyretin (TTR), also known as prealbumin, is a plasma protein that transports thyroxine and retinol-binding protein. It is primarily synthesized in the liver and secreted into plasma, accounting for about 25% of CSF protein. TTR is found in neuritic plaques, neurofibrillary tangles, and microangiopathic lesions of senile cerebral amyloid. Over 40 mutations in the TTR gene have been associated with amyloid deposition.
