This antibody is specific for Lewis a,b carbohydrate antigens.
Target Information
Lewis A and Lewis B are fucose-containing carbohydrates expressed on the surface of red blood cells and other tissues. These antigens are part of the Lewis family, involved in immune recognition, cell adhesion, and inflammation.
Their expression is determined by the FUT3 gene, encoding fucosyltransferase. Individuals with FUT3 mutations express Lewis A but not Lewis B, and vice versa. Some may be Lewis negative due to FUT2 gene mutations.
Lewis antigen presence or absence can influence disease susceptibility and cancer progression by modulating immune responses and tumor metastasis.
