Product Specific Information
This antibody specifically binds to a twelve amino acid peptide sequence (EDQVDPRLIDGK) in the activation region of Protein C, spanning the thrombin cleavage site. It does not react with activated Protein C. Cross-reactive with baboon Protein C, but not with bovine or mouse Protein C.
Target Information
Protein C is a vitamin K-dependent plasma glycoprotein activated by the thrombin-thrombomodulin complex. The active form contains a serine protease domain that degrades activated coagulation factors V and VIII, thereby inhibiting blood coagulation. It is produced in the liver and consists of two polypeptide chains. The 62 kDa proenzyme is activated to a 55 kDa enzyme. Normal plasma concentrations are approximately 1–3 ng/mL for the active form and ~3 µg/mL for the proenzyme. Mutations in the Protein C gene are associated with thrombophilia due to Protein C deficiency, neonatal purpura fulminans, and recurrent venous thrombosis.
