Target Information

Interleukin 2 (IL-2) is an immuno-modulatory cytokine important for the proliferation of activated T cells and differentiation of B cells, NK cells, monocytes, and macrophages. IL-2 signals through the IL-2 receptor (IL-2R), a heterotrimeric complex whose gamma chain is shared by IL-4 and IL-7. The IL-2 gene shows monoallelic expression in mature thymocytes, a unique regulatory mode ensuring precise gene control. Disruption of IL-2–like genes in mice leads to colitis-like disease, highlighting its essential role in immune response regulation.
