Target Information
The c-Myc protein is a 62 kDa transcription factor encoded by the c-Myc gene on human chromosome 8q24. It is frequently activated in various tumor cells and plays a key role in cellular proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and cell cycle progression.
Phosphorylation of c-Myc at Thr58/Ser62 by kinases such as GSK3, CDK, ERK2, and JNK regulates its function in proliferation and cycle control.
c-Myc is essential for vasculogenesis and angiogenesis during tumor development. Deregulated expression of c-Myc can induce apoptosis and is associated with multiple cancers, including lung, breast, and colon carcinomas, as well as Burkitt’s lymphoma and other B-cell disorders.
Antibodies against c-Myc epitopes recognize overexpressed proteins containing Myc tags at either terminus, useful in detecting Myc-tagged recombinant proteins.
