Target Information
The DAXX gene encodes a multifunctional protein localized in both the nucleus and cytoplasm. It interacts with various proteins such as apoptosis antigen Fas, centromere protein C, and transcription factor E26 oncogene homolog 1. In the nucleus, DAXX acts as a potent transcriptional repressor binding to sumoylated transcription factors, with repression relieved upon sequestration into promyelocytic leukemia nuclear bodies or nucleoli. It also associates with centromeres during the G2 phase. In the cytoplasm, DAXX may regulate apoptosis. Its localization and function are modulated by post-translational modifications including sumoylation, phosphorylation, and polyubiquitination. Multiple transcript variants exist due to alternative splicing.
