Target Information
CAP-E and CAP-C (Chromosome Associated Protein-E & C) are members of the SMC (Structural Maintenance of Chromosome) family that form a heterodimeric complex required for mitotic chromosome condensation, ensuring proper segregation of genetic information during cell division. The hCAP-C/hCAP-E complex, part of the condensin multiprotein complex, interacts with phosphorylated Histone H3 to drive mitotic chromosome condensation. The distribution patterns of these complexes in interphase nuclei suggest they function independently during the cell cycle, indicating distinct roles in mitotic chromosome organization in human cells.
