Target Information
CAP-E and CAP-C (Chromosome Associated Protein-E & C) are members of the SMC (Structural Maintenance of Chromosome) family that form a heterodimeric complex required for mitotic chromosome condensation and proper segregation of genetic material during cell division.
The hCAP-C/hCAP-E complex is a component of the condensin multiprotein complex, which interacts with phosphorylated Histone H3 to facilitate chromosome condensation during mitosis.
Distinct distribution patterns of these complexes during the cell cycle suggest that they play different roles in mitotic chromosome organization in human cells.
